Sheddy, Downs Voted to All-AMCC Team

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – A pair of Penn State Altoona men's volleyball seniors earned All-Conference recognition on Tuesday, when the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its postseason awards.

Penn State Altoona senior outside hitter Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) and senior middle blocker Dan Downs (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) were both voted to the second team of the AMCC All-Conference squad.

Sheddy capped his four-year Lions volleyball career with an excellent senior season. In the AMCC this year, he ranked second in service aces per set (0.34), fourth in points (333.0) and kills per set (2.84), fifth in service aces (34) and points per set (3.4), sixth in kills (281), seventh in digs (216), eighth in digs per set (2.18), and 17th in hitting percentage (.186) and solo blocks (12).

Sheddy's total of 34 service aces this season set a new Penn State Altoona men's volleyball single season record. He also became the Lions' all-time record-holder in matches played with 118 during his collegiate volleyball career.

This is Sheddy's first appearance on an AMCC All-Conference team.

Downs finished off his three-year playing career with Lions volleyball by posting another strong season in 2019. This season in the AMCC, he ranked third in solo blocks (27), fourth in hitting percentage (.284), 11th in points (281.0) and total blocks (71), 12th in kills (216), 13th in points per set (2.8) and blocks per set (0.70), 15th in kills per set (2.14), and 17th in block assists (44).

This season, Downs became the Lions' all-time record-holder in career attack percentage (.332), solo blocks (97), and total blocks (237). He was also named the AMCC Player of the Week once.

Downs has now been selected to the All-AMCC team in each of his three seasons with Penn State Altoona men's volleyball. He was a second team pick in 2017 before taking first team honors in 2018.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball finished its season with a 13-15 overall record, including a 5-9 mark in the AMCC. The Lions finished the season in fifth place in the AMCC standings.
