Heffelfinger Sets Low Score Record in Lions’ Win Over Juniata

ALTOONA, Pa. – Sophomore Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) set the Penn State Altoona men's golf record for the lowest individual score in a round on Friday, when the Lions defeated non-conference opponent Juniata College 303-330 in a dual match at Sinking Valley Country Club.

Heffelfinger shot 5-under par, finishing his day with 67 to set a new Lions record for the lowest score in a round. He surpassed the previous record of 68, which was set earlier this season by teammate Andrew Ferguson.

"Trey has been pushing himself, and he finally found his putting stroke tonight," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "His patience and hard work have paid off. I'm really proud of him."

Andrew Ferguson (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) fired a 73 to rank second among the 16 individual golfers competing in the match, and his score also ties for the sixth-lowest in a round in Penn State Altoona history.

Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) shot 79 to rank third on his team and finish in a tie for third place overall on the individual leaderboard. Iain Murphy-Herndon (Oldsmar, FL/Saddlebrook Prep) carded an 84, and Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) finished the day with 85.

Three other Lions competed as individuals on the day. Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg) shot 81 to place fifth individually. Parker Farnell (Ambler, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) finished with 85, and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) scored an 88.

Next up, Penn State Altoona golf will compete in the two-day Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College at the Country Club of Meadville. The event opens Sunday, September 26 at 11:30 a.m. and continues on Monday, September 27 at 8:00 a.m.

"I'm hoping this prepares us for a good tournament this weekend at Allegheny," said Koehle. "We will need to be at our best in order to be competitive, and I like the momentum we have built to this point."
