Lions Golf in Seventh After Day One at Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf wrapped up the first round of the two-day Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College at the Country Club of Meadville, on Sunday.

The Lions shot 313 as a team to finish the day in seventh place out of 13 teams.

Gannon University held down the top spot on the team leaderboard with a score of 291, while Mercyhurst University was in second place with a score of 298. Westminster College was third with 300, host institution Allegheny was fourth with 308, Washington & Jefferson College placed fifth with 309, and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Behrend was sixth with 312, finishing one shot ahead of the Lions.

Penn State Altoona placed ahead of fellow AMCC schools Mount Aloysius College (10th Place, 333) and Pitt-Greensburg (11th Place, 340).

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) shot a team-best 75 during round one on the par 72 course, finishing the opening round in a tie for eighth place out of 68 individual golfers. Andrew Ferguson (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) carded 77 to rank in a tie for 17th place individually.

Iain Murphy-Herndon (Oldsmar, FL/Saddlebrook Prep) fired an 80 to tie for 32nd place on the individual leaderboard. Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) shot 81 to rank in a tie for 40th place, and Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) rounded out the Lions' group of five by shooting 86 to place in a tie for 52nd individually by the end of day one.

Day two of Allegheny College's Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational picks up tomorrow, Monday, September 27, with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
