Men’s Golf Competes in Day One of Mason-Dixon Classic

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf returned to Abbottstown for the second weekend in a row, this time to compete in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic, hosted by McDaniel College, at The Bridges Golf Club.

In Saturday's round, the first of the two-day classic, Penn State Altoona shot 317 as a team to finish the day in 14th place out of 15 teams.

Gettysburg College found itself in first place by the end of day one, tying for the second-best team round in the history of the event by shooting 294. Stevens Institute of Technology was in second place with a team score of 297, and York College took third with 299.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) had the Lions' low score on the day, shooting a two-over par 74 to finish the day in a tie for seventh place individually out of 75 golfers.

Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Andrew Ferguson (Altoona, PA/Tyrone), and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) each carded an 81 to tie for 56th place on the player leaderboard. Iain Murphy-Herndon (Oldsmar, FL/Saddlebrook Prep) rounded out Penn State Altoona's starting five with an 83 to tie for 65th place.

The Lions resume competition in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic tomorrow, Sunday, October 10, for the second and final day of the event. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 10:10 a.m.
