Lions Golf Finishes Third at W&J Invitational

CANONSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team continued its spring schedule on Monday in the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Invitational, hosted by Washington & Jefferson College at Southpointe Golf Club.

The Lions shot 341 to tie for third place out of 11 teams.

Host school W&J won the event with a team score of 325, and Westminster College was the runner-up with 335. Division II Clarion University shot 341 to tie Penn State Altoona for third place.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) had the lowest score of the day for Penn State Altoona, shooting 82 on the par 72 course to place sixth individually out of 61 golfers. Andrew Ferguson (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) also achieved a top-10 finish, tying for seventh place after shooting 83. Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) carded an 84 to tie for 11th place.

Rounding out the Lions' starting five were Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg), who shot 92 and 100, respectively. Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) competed as an individual for Penn State Altoona and shot 95.

Next up, Penn State Altoona will host its final home event of the 2021-22 season this Wednesday, April 13, when the Lions will compete in a tri-match with regional opponents Juniata College and Mount Aloysius College. The event will be held at Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg, and it is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
