Golf Takes Second in Tri-Match With Juniata, Mount Aloysius

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team hosted a tri-match with regional Division III opponents Juniata College and Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday afternoon at Scotch Valley Country Club, and the Lions took second place after shooting 310 as a team.

The tournament benefitted the Griffith Family Foundation and its Sideline Cancer initiative, which aims to raise awareness about and funds to combat pancreatic cancer. Mount Aloysius won the three-team event with a score of 306, and Juniata shot 338 to place third. The Lions' team score of 310 marked its lowest of the spring semester thus far.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) led Penn State Altoona with his lowest score of the spring, shooting 74 to rank first individually out of 19 competitors on the day. Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) tied for third place while matching his best score of the spring semester, firing 76.

Andrew Ferguson (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg) each shot 80, with Carlin's score representing his best of the spring. Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) carded an 85.

Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) competed as an individual and shot 81, his best score of the spring to date.

Next up, Penn State Altoona golf will compete in its final event before embarking on the NCAA Division III Championships in May. The Lions will wrap up their regular season spring schedule on Monday, April 18, competing in the first of the two-day Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational, hosted by Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania at Indiana Country Club. Day one is expected to tee off at 11:30 a.m.
