Lions Conclude Round One at The Gauntlet in Sixth Place

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The first round of The Gauntlet, presented by Premier Collegiate Tournaments, finally concluded early Monday morning, with the Penn State Altoona men's golf team sitting in sixth place out of 14 squads.

The opening round of the two-day tournament began on Sunday, but play was suspended that evening due to darkness. Play resumed on Monday morning at 7:00 a.m., and Penn State Altoona finished the round with a team score of 297.

Washington & Jefferson College placed atop the day one leaderboard with a score of 290, while Drew University and McDaniel College were tied for second place with 291.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) made his season debut for Penn State Altoona, shooting 1-under par with a 71 to tie for fourth place out of 75 individuals. Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) and Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) each shot 75 to tie for 27th place.

Owen Wise (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) tied for 42nd overall with a 76, and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) carded 77 to tie for 45th place.

The second and final round of The Gauntlet began Monday at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
