Lions Hold Eighth After Day One of Region V Preview

NASHPORT, Ohio – By the conclusion of day one of the NCAA Division III Region V Preview tournament, hosted by Penn State Altoona at The Virtues Golf Club, the Lions golf team found itself in eighth place out of 15 teams.

Penn State Altoona shot 340 on the par 72 course to rank eighth on the team leaderboard. The Lions placed ahead of three other Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference teams who competed, finishing the day in front of Penn State Behrend (tied for ninth place, 344), Pitt-Bradford (tied for 12th place, 351), and Mount Aloysius College (15th place, 360).

Otterbein University was in first place after round one, shooting 315 as a team. The College of Wooster was second with 318, and John Carroll University was third with 322.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) and Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) each carded a 12-over 84 to tie for 34th place individually out of 95 total golfers.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) shot 85 to tie for 37th individually, Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) scored 87 to tie for 54th place, and Owen Wise (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) rounded out Penn State Altoona's starting five with 92 to tie for 73rd.

Penn State Altoona also had five other players compete as individuals.

Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Syrak Nemer (Coronado, CA/Coronado) each carded 86 to tie for 45th place individually. Nemer's round was his first collegiate appearance on the course for Penn State Altoona.

Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg) shot 89 to rank in a tie for 62nd place, Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) scored 94 to tie for 81st, and Michael Gloth (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) finished with 95 to tie for 84th.

Penn State Altoona men's golf returns to action for the second and final day of the Region V Preview tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4. Tomorrow's round will be the Lions' last of the fall regular season, as the team will then turn its sights to the AMCC Championships next week.
