Lions Hold Fourth Place after Day One at DIII Showcase

FRENCH LICK, Ind. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team competed in the first of the two-day Division III Showcase, hosted by Earlham College, on Monday at The Donald Ross Course at French Lick.

Day one of the DIII Showcase consisted of two rounds, with the Lions totaling a team score of 607 after 36 holes. In round one, Penn State Altoona shot 303, then followed that up with 304 in round two.

Luther College held the top spot on the team leaderboard after day one with a two-round combined score of 585. Wittenberg University was in second place with 588, and Centre College was third with 592.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) led the way for Penn State Altoona through the event's first two rounds, shooting an even-par 70 in round one before scoring 77 in round two to total 147, tying for seventh place out of 48 individuals.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was in a tie for 16th place individually after day one, shooting 82 and 71 for a combined score of 153.

Owen Wise (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) and Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) both finished the day in a tie for 19th place on the player leaderboard, each totaling 155. Wise shot 79 in round one and 76 in round two, while DiTrani carded 75 and 80.

Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) finished Monday's action in a tie for 33rd place, shooting 79 in the first round and 85 in the second for a combined score of 164.

Penn State Altoona resumes play in the DIII Showcase tomorrow, Tuesday, April 11, for the second and final day of the tournament. Tee times for Tuesday are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
