Men’s Golf Places Fourth at DIII Showcase

FRENCH LICK, Ind. – After the second and final day of the Division III Showcase on Tuesday, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished in fourth place out of nine teams.

Penn State Altoona shot 302 as a team in Tuesday's round of the tournament, which was hosted by Earlham College at The Donald Ross Course at French Lick. After shooting 303 and 304 in Monday's first and second rounds, the Lions totaled 909 over three rounds to finish the event in fourth place.

Wittenberg University won the Showcase with a three-round score of 881, and Luther College took the runner-up spot with 883. Centre College placed third with 896.

Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) and Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) tied for the team lead in scoring after three rounds, as each golfer totaled 225 to tie for 10th place individually out of 48 total competitors. Nusbaum shot a team-low 72 in Tuesday's round on the par 70 course, while Heffelfinger carded a 78.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) and Owen Wise (Lewistown, PA/Mifflin County) each finished with identical scores of 231 after three rounds, tying for 18th place individually. Both DiTrani and Wise shot 76 in Tuesday's round.

Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) shot 83 on Tuesday, finishing with a three-round score of 247 to tie for 32nd place on the player leaderboard.

Penn State Altoona men's golf returns to action next Monday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 18, when the Lions will travel to the Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley to compete in the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate, hosted by Wittenberg. Monday's round is expected to start at 10:50 a.m., while Tuesday's tee times are slated to begin at 9 a.m.
