Men’s Golf in Fourth after Day One at Western PA Intercollegiate

SEWICKLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team continued the spring portion of its 2022-23 regular season on Monday, when the Lions competed in the first of the two-day Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate, hosted by Wittenberg University at Allegheny Country Club.

The Lions shot 306 as a team in the opening round, finishing the day in fourth place out of six teams.

Host Wittenberg held the top spot in the pack with a team score of 288, while Carnegie Mellon University and Wittenberg's 'B' team were in a tie for second place with 297. Denison University was in fifth with 307, and Kenyon College brought up the rear with 308.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) and Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) tied for the team lead in scoring, as each golfer shot 3-over par on the day. By each golfer carding 73, Nusbaum and Heffelfinger finished the day in a tie for ninth place out of 38 individual competitors.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) shot 78 on the day to tie for 23rd place individually, and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) carded an 82 to take 32nd place.

The second and final day of the Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate is tomorrow, Tuesday, April 18. Tee times are expected to begin at 10 a.m.
