Lions Finish Sixth at Western PA Intercollegiate

SEWICKLEY, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf came in sixth place out of six teams at the conclusion of the two-day Western Pennsylvania Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Tuesday and was hosted by Wittenberg University at Allegheny Country Club.

In day two of the event, Penn State Altoona shot 316 as a team to compile a two-day score of 622, which put the Lions in sixth place.

Carnegie Mellon University overcame a deficit after the first round to win the event with a two-day score of 578. Host school Wittenberg took second place with 581, and Wittenberg's 'B' team placed third with 586. Denison University came in fourth with 606, and Kenyon College was fifth with 617.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) had Penn State Altoona's low round on Tuesday, shooting 76, 6-over par, to finish with a two-day score of 149, tying for 14th place out of 38 on the player leaderboard. Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) shot 77 to record a two-round score of 150, tying for 16th place individually.

Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) shaved two strokes off of his round-one score, carding 80 on Tuesday to compile a two-day score of 162, placing him in a tie for 33rd out of all individuals. Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) shot 83 and took 32nd place with a two-round score of 161.

The men's golf team continues its busy week at home this Thursday, April 20, when the Lions will host the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at their home course, Sinking Valley Country Club. The action is expected to tee off at 12:30 p.m.
