Lions Take Second at Home Invitational

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team hosted its final home event of the 2022-23 season on Thursday, when the Lions welcomed eight other squads to compete in the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at Sinking Valley Country Club.

Penn State Altoona shot 313 as a team to finish as the runner-up out of nine total teams.

Penn College won the event with a team score of 305, and Susquehanna University and Mount Aloysius College tied for third place with 322.

Penn State Altoona's five-player lineup featured four sophomores who will be continuing their academic careers at University Park next semester: Jacob Carlin (Fayetteville, PA/Chambersburg), Logan Divald (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), Nathan Graham (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin), and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park).

"I'd like to thank our four sophomores who finished their Penn State Altoona regular season careers today," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "All four have meant so much to the resurgence of the program, all having played in the starting five at NCAAs or AMCC Championship tournaments the last two years. They are an excellent group of young men with bright futures, and we are thankful for their contributions to the team. I will miss them, but they are always part of the Penn State Altoona golf family and tradition."

Carlin led the way for Penn State Altoona, shooting 75, 3-over par, to place fourth out of 50 total individuals who competed in the round. Carlin's score was his lowest of the spring portion of the Lions' season, as well as the second-lowest of his entire 2022-23 campaign.

Divald followed close behind by firing 76 on the day, taking fifth place individually and carding his lowest score of the 2022-23 season. Graham tied his second-lowest score of the season, shooting 79 to finish in 10th place.

Toth took 21st place on the player leaderboard, shooting 83. Michael Gloth (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) scored an 84 to tie for 22nd place.

Next up, Penn State Altoona golf heads into its final regular season event of the schedule, as the Lions will travel to Long Island to compete in the Farmingdale State Spring Invitational this upcoming Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23. The Lions' tee times for Saturday's round are scheduled to begin at 9:54 a.m.
