NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team was rewarded for its successful fall on Thursday afternoon, when six members of the program were named to spots on the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's All-Conference team, including two major individual awards.

Head coach Tom Koehle was voted the AMCC Coach of the Year, and sophomore Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was chosen as the conference's Golfer of the Year. Additionally, Nusbaum, senior Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union), and sophomore Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) were selected to the first team of the All-AMCC squad, while freshmen Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) were second-team picks.

All five golfers comprised Penn State Altoona's lineup in last week's AMCC Championships, which the Lions won for their third consecutive conference title and eighth overall in program history.

Koehle's selection as the AMCC Coach of the Year is the fourth time that he has received the honor in his tenure with the Lions golf program. Koehle helped guide the Lions to three tournament wins this fall – including the AMCC Championships – and will coach his team in its seventh-ever NCAA Division III Championship appearance in May. This fall's edition of the Lions golf team shot three of the program's six lowest scores in a round in school history.

Nusbaum led both his team and the entire AMCC in scoring average this season, averaging 74.44 per round. The sophomore tied teammate Heffelfinger for the lowest score among all players during the AMCC Championships on Oct. 9-10 at Indiana Country Club, compiling a two-round score of 148. Nusbaum's low score of the fall came on Sept. 11, when he fired a career-best 68 during day two of The Gauntlet at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course to tie for the second-lowest score by a Lions golfer in team history. The sophomore was also named the AMCC Golfer of the Week on Sept. 18.

Heffelfinger won the AMCC individual title during the conference championships, beating teammate Nusbaum in a playoff after the two tied with identical two-round scores of 148 by the conclusion of the tournament. The senior finished second on Penn State Altoona and in the AMCC in scoring average, shooting 74.75 per round this fall. Heffelfinger's best score of the fall schedule came on Sept. 17, when he shot 70 during day two of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic on the Lions' home course, Sinking Valley Country Club.

DiTrani boasted the third-best average among all AMCC players this fall, as well as the third best on the Lions, by averaging 76.0 per round. The sophomore placed fourth on the player leaderboard at the AMCC Championships, totaling 155 across two days. DiTrani's lowest score of the season was 71, which he shot on two occasions – once during day one at The Gauntlet on Sept. 10, then again on Sept. 17 in day two of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic. Additionally, DiTrani earned AMCC Golfer of the Week honors on Sept. 5.

Bruce finished his freshman fall campaign with the fourth-lowest scoring average among all Lions players, as well as the fifth lowest in the AMCC, by averaging 78.67 per round. The freshman combined for a score of 168 across two rounds of the AMCC Championships to tie for 16th place individually. Bruce's season low came on Oct. 1 in day two of The Northeast Elite at Williamsport Country Club, when he carded a 74.

Ankeny ranked sixth on Penn State Altoona and eighth in the AMCC in scoring average this fall, after he averaged 80.14 per round. The freshman recorded a two-round score of 159 during the AMCC Championships to tie for sixth place individually in the tournament. Ankeny's lowest score of the season was a 77, which he carded during day one of the conference tournament.

Penn State Altoona men's golf will wrap up its fall schedule on Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24, when the Lions will host the NCAA Region V Showcase at the Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

After that, the team will break for the winter months, then return to action with a five-tournament schedule in the spring to prepare for the NCAA Division III Championships, which are scheduled for May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
