Pennsylvania Soccer Breaks Into the Highest Stage in the World. Twice.

Pennsylvania Soccer Breaks Into the Highest Stage in the World. Twice.

When Chelsea plays Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League Trophy final this Saturday at 3 p.m., two Pennsylvania natives will be fighting for a piece of soccer history in front of the whole world. This is the first time in Champions League history that two American players, will be on the biggest world stage. On opposing teams, both are from Pennsylvania.

Attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic -- born and raised in Hershey, Pennsylvania -- joined the English Premier League giants Chelsea FC, and Penn State's Daily Collegian reported in an interview that he would've picked Penn State University if he took the college route.

Goalkeeper Zack Steffen -- born and raised in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and pictured with family at the Nittany Lion Shrine -- is standing in his way as the starting goal keeper for Manchester City.

Steffen will face Pulisic in Istanbul to battle it out for the winner's medal of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League. The entire world will be watching this game very closely.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer head coach Fraser Kershaw said, "Hershey's Christian Pulisic versus Coatesville's Zack Steffen could be like Sheetz versus Wawa, and this timely collision will ignite a bright future when they come together as one for the U.S. Men's National team."

The UEFA Champions League 2021 final kicks off on CBS at 3 p.m. Eastern Time with streaming coverage.
