Lions Overpower Villa Maria in 9-2 Win

ELMA, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer reeled off its sixth consecutive win on Tuesday afternoon, when the Lions were too much to handle for USCAA opponent Villa Maria College at Flash Fields, defeating the Vikings 9-2.

Seven different players scored for Penn State Altoona (7-1), which produced its largest scoring output since September 24, 2016, when that season's team put nine goals on the board in a victory over Pitt-Bradford. It also ties for the third-most goals scored in a game in Penn State Altoona men's soccer history.

Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) and Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) scored two goals apiece for Penn State Altoona, with Corr also recording two assists and Ballard getting one assist. Mina Boulos (Al Ain, UAE/International School of Choueifat), Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove), David Ogoh (Abuja, Nigeria/Cherryfield College), and Chad Reighard (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each scored one goal, and Abdul Sattar (Mount Olive, NJ/Mount Olive) finished with a goal and an assist. Awad Eltayeb (Khartoum, Sudan/Altoona) also picked up an assist.

Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) was the starting keeper for Penn State Altoona, and he stopped two shots over 74 minutes to record his seventh victory of the season. Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) played 16 scoreless minutes in relief, making one save.

The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 11 minutes into the first half, en route to a big 7-2 advantage by the intermission.

Corr's header goal off of Ballard's corner kick at 4:19 put Penn State Altoona on the board, and he notched his second goal of the game and eighth of the season at 9:10 to make it 2-0. Reighard's first collegiate goal at 10:50, assisted by Sattar, increased the visitors' lead to 3-0.

Villa Maria (0-8-1) scored back-to-back goals to trim Penn State Altoona's lead to one, as Kade Streak struck twice for the Vikings. Streak's goal at 12:36 was the home team's first score of the day, and his penalty shot goal at 15:09 cut the Lions' advantage to 3-2.

But Penn State Altoona found the back of the net four more times before halftime to widen the gap to five. Sattar's goal at 27:14 preceded Ballard's goal at 30:31, with both goals being assisted by Corr. Myers followed with a goal at 33:44, and Ballard capped the half with his second goal of the game and team-leading 11th this season at the 38:31 mark.

Sattar and Myers' goals were both the first of their collegiate careers.

Penn State Altoona added two more goals to its total during the second half.

Ogoh and Eltayeb teamed up for the Lions' first goal of the period, and for the first points of their collegiate careers, when Eltayeb set up Ogoh's goal at 53:27. Boulos recorded his first collegiate goal at 74:46, giving the Lions a 9-2 lead.

Penn State Altoona finished the day with statistical advantages over Villa Maria in shots attempted (25-6), shots on goal (16-5), and corner kicks (6-1).

Corr registered game-highs in shots, attempting eight and putting four on goal. Seth Conaway (Fallentimber, PA/Glendale) recorded three shots on goal, while Ballard and Boulos took two shots on goal each.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer wraps up the first month of the season this Thursday, September 30, when the Lions will travel to face non-conference opponent Albright College in a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
