Men’s Swimming Keeps Seventh Place in Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team remained in seventh place out of nine teams by the conclusion of the second day of the Oberlin College Invitational on Friday at the Carr Pool.

With two days under their belts, the Lions had posted a combined team score of 328 points.

Penn State Altoona opened the men's finals session on Friday with a seventh place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, during which the foursome of Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Noah Jordan (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), and Yash Ray (King of Prussia, PA/Conestoga) compiled a time of 1:39.81.

One event later, Ray swam in the 'C' final for the 100 Yard Butterfly and took 23rd place overall with a time of 56.61.

Swanson competed in the 'A' final of the 200 Yard Freestyle and took fifth place, clocking in at 1:46.56. Also swimming in that event was Flavio Tokunaga (South Korea/Seoul Foreign School), who finished in 21st place overall with a time of 1:55.41 while competing in the 'C' final.

Jordan took 12th place overall in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, swimming in the 'B' final and earning a time of 1:02.61. Matt Lenze (Duncansville, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) took 21st place overall in that event, finishing in 1:09.84 while swimming in the 'C' final.

Pletz joined Swanson as making the cut for an 'A' final, as he competed in the top final for the 100 Yard Backstroke. Pletz finished in 53.07 to come in third place overall, and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) took 22nd place with a time of 1:09.01 while taking part in the 'C' final.

The Lions finished the evening by taking seventh place in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, as the group of Swanson, Tokunaga, Ray, and Pletz came together for a time of 7:35.54.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming will finish the three-day Oberlin Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, November 20. The last day's preliminaries start at 9:00 a.m., and the finals session will begin at 5:00 p.m.
