Men’s Swimming Ranks Third After Day One of AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday evening at the Webster Aquatic Center, holding down third place out of four conference teams after scoring 44 points as a unit.

Alfred State College found itself in the top spot in the AMCC standings – as well as ranking first among all eight teams in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet standings – with a total of 150 points. Penn State Behrend was in second with 112 points, and Pitt-Bradford was fourth with 30 points.

Penn State Altoona competed in one relay event during Wednesday night's finals session, setting a new team record with one of its two competing groups.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the foursome of Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), Noah Jordan (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School), and Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) combined to post a time of 1:36.43 to place third in the AMCC standings in that event. The group's time also set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming team record, edging out the previous record of 1:36.66, which was established on February 14, 2014 by former Lions Ben Porter, Alex Fisher, Keenan Halpin, and Kyle Huber.

Ethan Andrews (McVeytown, PA/Mifflin County), Matt Lenze (Duncansville, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle), Tomasz Zukowski (Slatington, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) swam in the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Medley Relay, coming together for a time of 1:45.49 to rank third among AMCC teams in that grouping.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming resumes action in the AMCC Championships tomorrow, Thursday, February 17, for day two. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m., with the day's finals session being held at 5:00 p.m. On the schedule for the Lions tomorrow are the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard I.M., 50 Yard Freestyle, and 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
