Men’s Swimming in Third After Day Two of AMCC Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – After the second of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Webster Aquatic Center on Thursday, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team continued to hold down third place out of four conference teams.

The Lions had accumulated 131 points as a team through two days to rank third on the AMCC team leaderboard, as well as sixth out of eight teams in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 championships meet.

Alfred State College was in first place in the AMCC and overall with 372 points. Penn State Behrend was fourth overall and second in the conference with 281 points, and Pitt-Bradford was eighth overall and fourth in the AMCC with 60 points.

In the first event of Thursday night's finals session, Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) took third place in the AMCC and overall in the 'A' final for the 500 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 4:45.86. His time set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming team record in that event, breaking his own record mark of 4:53.22 from November 18.

Another highlight for the Lions during Thursday's finals was the team of Swanson, Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School), Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), and Tomasz Zukowksi (Slatington, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) taking third place in the AMCC and sixth overall in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a combined time of 1:29.14.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming gets back in the water tomorrow, Friday, February 18, for the third day of this week's AMCC Championships. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., and the finals session will get started at 5:00 p.m.

Friday's finals schedule is comprised of the 400 Yard I.M., 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, 100 Yard Backstroke, and 400 Yard Medley Relay.
