Lions Men’s Swim Team Keeps Third Place in Day Three of AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – After three days of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team continued to hold down third place out of five AMCC teams with a score of 244 points.

Alfred State College kept its spot atop the team standings, ranking first in both the AMCC and in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 championships meet with a team score of 720.5. Penn State Behrend found itself in fourth place overall and second in the AMCC after day three with a score of 563.

After Penn State Altoona's 244 points, Pitt-Bradford was fourth in the AMCC with 95 points and Medaille College was fifth with one point.

Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School) took 10th place overall and sixth place in the AMCC in the 100 Yard Butterfly 'A' final, clocking in at 53.06. In the 200 Yard Freestyle 'A' final, Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) took fourth place overall and was the AMCC runner-up with a time of 1:44.62.

Noah Jordan (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) was fifth place overall and third in the AMCC in the 100 Yard Breaststroke 'A' finals, finishing in 1:00.01. Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) came in seventh place overall while also taking third in the AMCC during the 'A' final of the 100 Yard Backstroke, earning a time of 53.63.

In the 400 Yard Medley Relay 'A' final, the group of Pletz, Jordan, Wang, and Swanson combined for a time of 3:33.95 to place fifth overall and third in the AMCC, while also setting a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming program record. Their time surpassed the previous record of 3:37.79, which was established by former Lions Ben Porter, Alex Fisher, Zachary Jones, and Jay Wareham during the 2014 AMCC Championships on February 13 of that year.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 19, for the fourth and final day of this week's AMCC Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center. Tomorrow's preliminaries begin at 10:00 a.m., and the week's last finals session starts at 5:00 p.m.

On the docket for tomorrow are the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay events.
