Men’s Swimming Finishes in Third at AMCC Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team wrapped up its competition in the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday evening in the Webster Aquatic Center, with the Lions clinching third place out of six conference teams.

Penn State Altoona accumulated 357 points as a team over four days to finish third in the AMCC and sixth overall out of 10 teams in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 championships meet.

Alfred State College was crowned the overall champion, winning both the AMCC and the AMCC-Empire 8 meets with 969.5 points. Penn State Behrend was the AMCC runner-up with 839 points. Rounding out the conference standings were Pitt-Bradford (fourth place, 128 points), Wells College (fifth place, five points), and Medaille College (sixth place, one point).

In the first event of Saturday's finals session, Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) achieved an overall first place finish while also setting a new team record. Swanson compiled a time of 16:37.45 in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, placing first in the AMCC and overall in the AMCC-Empire 8 standings. His time also established a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming team record in that event, comfortably passing the previous mark of 17:13.81.

Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) took first place in the AMCC and third overall in the 200 Yard Backstroke, in which he finished with a time of 1:58.71 in the 'A' final.

In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, the team of Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School), Swanson, Pletz, and Noah Jordan (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) combined for a time of 3:17.12 to take third place in the AMCC and sixth overall.
