Men’s Swimming Sinks W&J 194-52

WASHINGTON, Pa. – In its first meet of the 2022-23 season, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team earned a 194-52 victory over non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at Henry Memorial Natatorium.

The Lions racked up 13 first place finishes in the win. Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) led the way with three individual first places, while Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), and Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School) each had two individual first place finishes.

Marawan triumphed in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:50.38, then won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 50.34. Marawan clinched his third win of the day in the 200 Yard IM, in which he clocked in at 2:10.54.

Pletz prevailed in the 50 Yard Backstroke with a time of 25.95, and he later won the 100 Yard Backstroke in 56.51. Swanson took first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 10:35.42, and he finished atop the standings in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:16.52. Wang came in first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 55.53, and he took first in the 50 Yard Butterfly by finishing in 25.70.

Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and Brian Nguyen (n/a) also recorded individual first place finishes for Penn State Altoona. Dotts achieved first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.05, and Nguyen won the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:05.77.

The Lions also swept the day's pair of relay events.

Penn State Altoona started the meet by winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the foursome of Christopher Schell (Wyoming, PA/Holy Redeemer), Dotts, Wang, and Marawan combined to finish in 1:43.57 to take first place. The Lions ended the meet with a first place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, when Schell, Dotts, Swanson, and Allan Samoilovich (n/a) posted a total time of 1:36.50 to get the win.

The Lions return to action next Saturday, October 22, when the team will travel to face non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College in a dual meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
