Men’s Swimming in Ninth at Day One of Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team found itself in ninth place out of 11 teams by the conclusion of Thursday's opening night of the Oberlin College Invitational at Carr Pool.

The Lions totaled 104 points as a team, ranking ahead of SUNY-Brockport (85) and Wheeling University (6) in the standings. Fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference school Alfred State College nabbed first place in the standings after day one, finishing with 321 points, while host Oberlin was second with 317.

The team of Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), and Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) started the night's finals session by combining for a ninth place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a total time of 1:30.76.

Swanson swam in the 'C' final of the 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 4:56.98 to win that grouping and place 17th overall. Pletz made the 'B' final of the 200 Yard IM, placing fifth in that group and 13th overall by clocking in at 2:02.52. Dotts competed in the 50 Yard Freestyle 'C' final, placing eighth in the group and 24th overall with a time of 22.71.

In the evening's last event, the foursome of Pletz, Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School), and Swanson took ninth place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay by posting a time of 3:38.84.

Penn State Altoona resumes action in the Oberlin Invitational tomorrow, Friday, November 18, when preliminaries start at 9:00 a.m. and the day's finals session is set for 6:00 p.m.
