Men’s Swimming Places Ninth at Oberlin Invitational 

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team wrapped up its three-day competition in the Oberlin College Invitational on Saturday at Carr Pool, taking ninth place out of 12 teams. 

The Lions scored 157 points in Saturday's finals, finishing the invitational with a team total of 398 points. Penn State Altoona ranked ahead of non-conference opponents SUNY Brockport (10th place, 353 points), Wheeling University (11th place, 17 points), and Chatham University (12th place, eight points) on the final team leaderboard. 

Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Alfred State College won the men's invitational with 1,216.5 points, while host Oberlin finished as the runner-up with 1,121.5 points. 

Penn State Altoona opened Saturday's finals session with a 16th place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke, where Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) recorded a time of 2:07.80. 

Next, the Lions had a pair of point-scorers in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Laurence Wang (New Zealand/Auckland Grammar School) came in 16th place with a time of 49.22, and Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) took 20th place by finishing in 49.56. 

In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) placed eighth by clinching a time of 2:18.64. Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) took 12th place in the next swim, the 200 Yard Butterfly, by finishing in 2:06.00. 

Three different Lions picked up points in the next event, the 1,650 Yard Freestyle. Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) came in sixth place with a time of 17:26.72, Allan Samoilovich (Leonia, NJ/Paramus Catholic) was 14th after clocking in at 19:10.10, and Ethan Andrews (McVeytown, PA/Mifflin County) placed 15th by posting a time of 19:46.11. 

Penn State Altoona finished the meet with an eighth place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Swanson, Wang, Zisa, and Dotts came together to compile a time of 3:21.62. 

The men's swimming team will return to dual meet action for its next event, as the Lions will travel to Erie to face AMCC foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 p.m.
