Men’s Swimming Edges Elizabethtown for Senior Day Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team closed out its regular season schedule with a tight victory on Saturday afternoon in the Adler Natatorium, defeating non-conference opponent Elizabethtown College 135-124.

Prior to the meet, the men's swimming team recognized its lone senior swimmer, Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), in a senior day ceremony.

Penn State Altoona helped send off Swanson by totaling nine first place finishes as a team to post its fifth dual meet win of the season. Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) led the way with three individual first place finishes, while Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) had two individual wins.

Pletz took first in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 52.68, and he won the 200 Yard Backstroke by clocking in at 1:58.43. Pletz sealed his third win by prevailing in the 200 Yard IM, in which he finished in 2:02.65.

Marawan's first win of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, in which he clocked in at 1:53.16. He later placed first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.85.

Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) notched an individual win in the 100 Yard Freestyle, earning a time of 49.63. Brian Nguyen (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) came in first place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, finishing in 2:17.53.

Penn State Altoona also won both of the meet's relay events.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the foursome of Pletz, Dotts, Ethan Andrews (McVeytown, PA/Mifflin County), and Marawan posted a total time of 1:39.41 to finish atop the standings. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Adam McGlynn (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), Swanson, and Dotts took first place with a combined time of 1:30.71.

Juniata College's club swimming team also competed in the meet on an exhibition basis.

Next up, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team will get ready for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, which are scheduled for Wednesday, February 15 through Saturday, February 18 and will be held at Webster High School in Rochester, N.Y.
