Men’s Swimming Takes Third in Opening Night of AMCCs

WEBSTER, N.Y. – By the conclusion of the opening finals session of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday night at the Webster Aquatic Center, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team found itself in third place out of four conference teams.

The Lions compiled a team score of 80 points on Wednesday to rank ahead of fourth-place Pitt-Bradford. In the combined AMCC-Empire 8 standings, Penn State Altoona was sixth place out of eight total teams.

Highlights for the Lions included a pair of high-scoring finishes in the 'A' finals of both relay events, including one record-setting time.

Penn State Altoona started its night with a fifth-place finish in the 'A' final of the 200 Yard Medley Relay, in which the team of Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Ethan Andrews (McVeytown, PA/Mifflin County), and Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) compiled a total time of 1:36.67.

In the second and final swimming event of the night, the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Marawan, Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Jack Zisa (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), and Andrews came together for a time of 7:21.26 to place sixth in the 'A' final. That time edged past the current team record in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay to set a new team record. The previous record time was 7:21.80, established by former Lions Brendan Farren, Kyle Huber, Zachary Jones, and Jay Wareham on February 14, 2014 during that season's AMCC Championships.

Action resumes tomorrow, Thursday, February 16, for day two of the AMCC Championships. The day's preliminaries open at 10 a.m., and the finals will start at 5 p.m.
