Men’s Swimming in Third After Day Two at AMCC Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The second of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships wrapped up on Thursday night in the Webster Aquatic Center, with the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team holding third place out of four AMCC teams.

Alfred State College held the top spot in both the AMCC Championships and the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet with a team score of 442. Penn State Behrend was second in the AMCC with 322 points, followed by Penn State Altoona's third-place total of 188.5 points. Pitt-Bradford placed fourth in the conference with 106 points. The Lions finished Thursday in sixth place out of eight total teams competing in the AMCC-Empire 8 meet.

Penn State Altoona's competition in Thursday night's finals session was highlighted by Lion swimmers qualifying for three of the evening's four 'A' finals, including setting another new team record time.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) took fifth place overall and fourth in the AMCC in the 'A' final of the 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 4:48.73.

In the 'A' final for the 200 Yard IM, Adam Marawan (Dubai, UAE/GEMS Dubai American Academy) placed third in the AMCC and tied for fourth overall by clocking in at 1:57.30. Marawan's time set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming record, beating the previous time of 1:58.73 set by former Lion Alex Fisher on February 13, 2014 during that season's AMCC Championships.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, the team of Swanson, Marawan, Luke Pletz (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson), and Adam Dotts (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) combined for a time of 1:28.00 to finish in fifth place overall and third in the AMCC.

Day three of the AMCC Championships is tomorrow, Friday, February 17. Preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m., and the day's finals session will begin at 5 p.m.
