Lions Extend Win Streak in 7-2 Win at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team stretched its win streak to six consecutive matches, as the Lions defeated non-conference opponent Lycoming College 7-2 on Monday evening at Brandon Park.

Penn State Altoona (9-2) started the match by winning two out of three in doubles. After Lycoming (3-5) picked up a point with an 8-5 win in the No. 1 spot, the Lions scored points in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford)/Ethan Schneider (Broad Top, PA/Tussey Mountain) recorded their sixth win of the season together with an 8-2 victory. In No. 3 doubles, the tandem of Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata)/Javier Pozo (Peru/The Southern Cross School) won 8-2 for their sixth victory of the season.

In singles play, the Lions reeled off wins in the No. 2 through No. 6 matches to finish the night with a five-point match win over Lycoming. Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) notched his eighth win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 match, and Beard overcame a first-set loss to win in No. 3 singles 4-6, 6-0, 10-3 for his seventh victory of the year. Hibbs picked up his seventh win of the season by prevailing 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 match, and Schneider earned his eighth win of the year with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot. Pozo got his sixth victory of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph in No. 6 singles.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's tennis will return home to face non-conference opponent Susquehanna University this Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.

Notes: The Lions' match against non-conference opponent Westminster College, scheduled for this Friday, April 7, was postponed on Monday. A makeup date has not been determined.
