Lions Fall to Behrend in AMCC Title Match

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team found itself playing in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship match for the second year in a row, but the Lions were unable to pull out a victory, losing 5-0 to Penn State Behrend at Westwood Racquet Club.

With its win, Behrend (15-8), the top seed in the tournament, earns the AMCC's automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships. For second-seeded Penn State Altoona (13-5), it is the end of the road for a 2022-23 season that saw the Lions set a team single-season record for wins.

At the conclusion of the championship match, Penn State Altoona sophomores Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) and Joey Toth (South Park, PA/South Park) were both named to the AMCC all-tournament team for their performances during the conference postseason.

Behrend opened the championship tilt by winning all three doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-4, and 8-3. Behrend then clinched the AMCC title when the match reached decision after a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles and a 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 3 match.
