Warriors Hand Lions Loss in Home Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team started its 2023 schedule at home on Friday afternoon, when the Lions suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of non-conference opponent Lycoming College at Spring Run Stadium.

Lycoming (1-0) got a hat trick from Mikayla Long, while Julia Bidelspach scored two goals and Aubrey Williamson had a goal and three assists for the Warriors.

Penn State Altoona (0-1) was limited to three shots on goal, with Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) recording two and Emilee Roman (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) having one.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) started in goal for Penn State Altoona and was saddled with the loss, playing all 90 minutes and making five saves.

Lycoming tallied the game's first goal at 28:26, when Long chipped in a pass along the end line from Williamson. Williamson scored at 32:51 following a turnover by Penn State Altoona in its own zone, and Long notched her second goal of the day at 36:10 to help Lycoming to a 3-0 advantage by halftime.

Lycoming added four second-half goals, getting two from Bidelspach and one apiece from Abigail Umhoefer and Long.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 2, hosting Juniata College for a 4 p.m. matchup at Spring Run.
