Women’s Soccer Blanked by Eagles

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team continued its season-opening homestand on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions fell 5-0 to non-conference foe Juniata College at Spring Run Stadium.

Juniata (1-1) got two goals apiece from Mckaye Wilton and Savanna Murray.

Penn State Altoona (0-2) was held to four shots on goal as a team. Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had two shots on goal, while Dee Dee Abbott (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) and Vera Andino (Qatar/American School of Doha) had one apiece.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) got the start at goalkeeper for the Lions and took the loss while playing 33:51 and making one save. Caitlin Cowen (South Park, PA/South Park) entered in relief, playing the game's final 56:09 and recording four stops.

Juniata drew first blood at 5:01, when Wilton took a pass from the right side of the box and tapped the ball into the open goal. At 20:48, the Eagles made it 2-0 when Murray took a long pass into the box and sent a shot around the keeper. The visitors increased their advantage to 3-0 at 26:54, when Lina Rahman collected a long pass, dribbled past the defense, and maneuvered past the keeper to find the back of the net.

Juniata upped its lead to 5-0 in the second half, getting a tally from Wilton at 54:15, followed by Murray's score at 57:28.

The Eagles finished with a 12-9 advantage in shot attempts and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to action on Wednesday, September 6, playing its first road game as the Lions travel to face Westminster College at 5 p.m.
