Women’s Soccer Stays Unbeaten in AMCC with 3-1 Win

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team remained undefeated in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference through its first three games, as the Lions earned a 3-1 road win over league opponent Alfred State College on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium.

Camryn Kurilla (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) scored two goals to lead the way for Penn State Altoona (2-6-2, 2-0-1 AMCC), while Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) finished with a goal and an assist. Emilee Roman (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) and Schenley Farrell (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) each recorded an assist for the Lions, with Roman's helper representing her first collegiate point.

Nicole Schwartz (Clifton, NJ/Passaic County Technical Institute) made three saves in goal for Penn State Altoona to notch her second win of the season.

Kurilla scored the game's first two goals to give Penn State Altoona an early lead. She scored at 6:41 on an assist from Roman, then found the back of the net again at 15:49 on an assist from Smith.

Alfred State (2-6-1, 1-2 AMCC) cut its deficit in half shortly before halftime, as Allison Lundmark's tally at the 42:34 mark got the Pioneers on the board and made it 2-1.

But Penn State Altoona answered less than five minutes into the second half to reclaim its two-goal advantage. Smith scored at 49:50, assisted by Farrell, to give the Lions a 3-1 lead that the team would not relinquish.

Penn State Altoona finished the day with a 13-9 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 lead in shots on goal. The Lions had a particularly strong showing in the second half, when the team outshot Alfred State 10-5.

Smith had a team-high four shot attempts, including three shots on goal. Kurilla had three shots, putting two on target, and Farrell also had two shots on goal in as many attempts.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns home to continue its AMCC schedule this upcoming Wednesday, October 4, when the Lions will host Pitt-Greensburg at 7 p.m. at Spring Run Stadium.
