Second-Half Goals Push Bobcats Past Lions

ALTOONA, Pa. – After a scoreless first half of Wednesday night's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game at Spring Run Stadium, Pitt-Greensburg scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team 4-0.

Pitt-Greensburg (6-5-1, 2-0-1 AMCC) got two goals and an assist from Maya Wertelet, while Megan Hickey finished with one goal and one assist. Logan Jennings also found the back of the net for the Bobcats.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had four shots on goal for Penn State Altoona (2-7-2, 2-1-1 AMCC), and Schenley Farrell (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) also attempted a shot for the Lions.

Nicole Schwartz (Clifton, NJ/Passaic County Technical Institute) was the starting keeper for Penn State Altoona and made seven saves in the loss.

During the first half, the teams were deadlocked in a tight defensive battle, with Pitt-Greensburg holding a narrow 3-2 edge in shots on goal over Penn State Altoona.

But the visitors came out strong after the intermission, scoring just 1:37 into the second half. Hickey's free kick into the box found Jennings, who headed the ball past the keeper at 46:37 to give Pitt-Greensburg the game's first score.

Wertelet increased the Bobcats' lead to 3-0 with unassisted tallies at 49:16 and 61:50.

Pitt-Greensburg tacked on a fourth goal late in the period. Wertelet fed a pass up the middle of the field, where Hickey took it, dribbled into the box, and scored at 82:48 to make it 4-0.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer returns to action this Saturday, October 7, hosting AMCC foe Hilbert College for a 1 p.m. match at Spring Run Stadium.
