Women’s Swimming Drops Meet at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team suffered its first dual meet loss of the season in its first road event of the year on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions lost 124-78 to non-conference opponent Chatham University in the Sigo Falk Natatorium.

Penn State Altoona recorded three first place finishes in the meet, with Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) each notching an individual first place and the Lions also winning a relay event.

Petry won the second event of the women's meet, the 1000 Yard Freestyle, by finishing in 12:12.52. Several events later, Coleman placed first in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:28.85.

Penn State Altoona's third and final first place of the meet occurred in its last event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that event, Coleman, Petry, Eve Chery (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), and Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) combined for a time of 1:49.09 to finish atop the standings.

The Lions also picked up several second place finishes during the meet.

In the day's first event, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Hailey Toth (New Ringgold, PA/Tamaqua), Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga), and Camille Izdepski (Lusby, MD/Patuxent) took second with a time of 2:10.32.

Dangelo earned runner-up status in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:08.11, and she also took a second place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke by securing a time of 1:05.35.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) finished her day with a pair of individual second place finishes, taking second in the 50 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 26.14 and being the runner-up in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.62.

Holl came in second during the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:32.17. Coleman recorded a second place finish during the 100 Yard Butterfly, ending her swim in 1:06.96. Petry took second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:59.78.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming has its next meet on the road next Saturday, October 30, when the Lions will travel to Franciscan University to face host school Franciscan and Division II opponent Alderson Broaddus University in a tri-meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
