Women’s Swimming in Eighth at Day One of Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team found itself in eighth place out of nine teams by the conclusion of the opening night of the Oberlin College Invitational on Thursday at the Carr Pool.

The Lions accumulated 135 points as a team to rank eighth out of nine squads competing in the event. Host school Oberlin was in first after day one with a total of 374.5 points, while Allegheny College was in second with 348.5 points. Baldwin Wallace University took third with 260 points.

In the first event of the meet, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College), and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) took fourth place with a combined time of 1:43.29. The time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record, edging the previous record of 1:43.48 set by Heisey, Dangelo, and former Lions Gillian Lowe and Kaitlin Heil in 2020.

Holl took 16th place individually in the 200 Yard IM final with a time of 2:28.20, in which she competed in the 'B' final of the swim.

Heisey won the 'B' final of the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.09, placing ninth overall in the complete final standings for that swim.

In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights), Dangelo, Coleman, and Heisey combined for a time of 4:21.56 to place eighth. That time also set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record, surpassing the previous mark of 4:21.74 set by former Lions Emily Booz, Eva Gerhart, Paetyn Zeamer, and Maria Gibson in 2017.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns for the second day of the Oberlin College Invitational tomorrow, Friday, November 19, with preliminaries at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m.
