Women’s Swimming Finishes Eighth at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – After the third and final day of the Oberlin College Invitational on Saturday at the Carr Pool, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team clinched eighth place out of nine teams with a score of 431 points.

Host Oberlin won the women's invitational with 1231.5 points, and Allegheny College was the runner-up with 1170.5 points.

Penn State Altoona's performance included the setting of two new team records.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) broke her own record when she competed in the 'A' final of the 100 Yard Freestyle and took third place with a time of 54.08. Heisey's previous record time was 55.02, set during the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on February 22, 2020.

The Lions' other new team record was established in the final event of the meet, the 400 Yard Freestyle. In that event, Heisey, Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights), Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College), and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) combined for a time of 3:47.03 to take fifth place overall. That time broke the previous record of 3:40.06, set on February 22, 2020 by Dangelo, Heisey and former Lions Gillian Lowe and Kaitlin Heil.

Meanwhile, in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, Emma Wallace (Rochester, NY/Wayne Central) took 17th place overall by finishing in 22:30.47.

Dangelo and Petry each competed in the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Backstroke, placing 11th and 12th overall with respective times of 2:18.40 and 2:18.58. In the 'C' final of that swim, McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) came in first while placing 17th on the overall leaderboard with a time of 2:24.95. Eve Chery (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was 23rd overall with a time of 2:35.80.

Coleman competed in the 'B' final of the 100 Yard Freestyle and came in 14th place overall with a time of 56.79.

Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) took part in the 'C' final of the 200 Yard Breaststroke and earned 20th place overall with a time of 2:53.74..

Next up, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team will host AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend for a dual meet at home on Saturday, December 4 at 1:00 p.m.
