Women’s Swimming Rallies for First-Ever Win Over Behrend

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team earned its first dual meet win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend in program history on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions came back to post a 132-125 victory in the Adler Natatorium.

A thrilling first place finish by Penn State Altoona in the final event of the meet, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, helped the Lions take the lead and hand Behrend a loss for the first time.

Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) led the way for Penn State Altoona with three individual first places, and they were also part of the relay team that propelled the Lions to a win.

Coleman's first win of the day came in the 200 Yard Freestyle, when she earned a time of 2:05.71. She clinched a victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.11, and she sealed the trifecta by taking first in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:47.32.

Dangelo prevailed in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:03.59, and she also took first place in the 50 Yard Butterfly by clocking in at 28.04. Dangelo's third win of the meet occurred in the 200 Yard IM, during which she finished in 2:21.29 to place atop the standings.

Coleman and Dangelo joined Eve Chery (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) in the go-ahead win for Penn State Altoona, as the foursome combined for a time of 3:58.30 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay to put the Lions over the top.

Petry also earned a first place finish individually in the 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 58.08. McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) picked up a first place in the 50 Yard Backstroke, during which she finished in 31.26.

The Lions totaled nine first place finishes as a team during the meet.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns to action next Friday, December 10 for its final meet of the semester, when the Lions will head to Lycoming College for a dual meet starting at 6:00 p.m.
