Women’s Swimming Sweeps Wells for 118-49 Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team pulled off a clean sweep of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Wells College in Saturday afternoon's dual meet in the Adler Natatorium, as the Lions won all 11 events in a 118-49 victory.

Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) each finished with a team-high three individual wins, including a new team record set by Dangelo. The team's victory is its fifth dual meet win of the season.

Coleman picked up her first win of the day in the 200 Yard IM, clocking in at 2:26.75 to take first. One event later, she was victorious in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:07.04. Coleman notched the trifecta in the 500 Yard Freestyle several events later, finishing in 5:50.61 to take first place.

Dangelo started her day off with a first place finish in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 19:37.22 to establish a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record. That time surpassed the previous record of 19:51.91, which was held by former Lion Anne Yakubisin.

Dangelo also recorded first place finishes in the 100 Yard Backstroke, in which she posted a time of 1:05.68, and the 100 Yard Breaststroke, during which she finished in 1:16.16.

Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) earned a first place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 2:10.41. Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) took first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.87, and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) won the 100 Yard Freestyle by finishing in 1:01.61.

Penn State Altoona also recorded a pair of relay event first places. In the meet-opening 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Holl, Hailey Toth (New Ringgold, PA/Tamaqua), Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga), and Heisey compiled a time of 2:08.29 to win the event. In the day's final event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Petry, Frey, Heisey, and Holl combined for a time of 1:54.78 to take first.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming's next meet is its final home event of the 2021-22 season, as the Lions will host AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford on Friday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m. in Adler.
