Women’s Swimming Finishes Third at AMCC Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – By the conclusion of the fourth and final day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Webster Aquatic Center on Saturday night, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team had locked up third place out of six conference teams.

The Lions racked up a team score of 537.5 over the course of the four-day meet, taking third place in the AMCC and fifth out of 10 total teams competing in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 championships meet.

Nazareth College, the host institution of the meet, took first place overall with 1,340.5 points. Penn State Behrend won the AMCC title, taking second place overall and first in the AMCC with 786 points.

Alfred State College took second place in the AMCC with 592.5 points, Wells College was fourth with 225 points, Pitt-Bradford placed fifth with 158.5 points, and Medaille College came in sixth with 19 points.

Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) earned an individual first place AMCC finish for Penn State Altoona in the 200 Yard Butterfly. She recorded a time of 2:22.22 to place second in the overall standings and lead all AMCC swimmers in that event to take the conference gold.

The Lions also earned a first place finish in a relay event, setting a new team record time along the way. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, the team of Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), Dangelo, Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights), and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) combined for a time of 3:43.43 to finish first among AMCC squads and third place overall. That time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record, besting the previous mark of 3:47.03 that the same foursome set earlier this season on November 20.
