Women’s Swimming Falls to Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. – In its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team lost 189-87 to Alfred State College in the Orvis Pool.

Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone), Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College), and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) each recorded an individual first place finish for the Lions during the meet.

Coleman won the 500 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 5:50.17, Dangelo prevailed in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:45.81, and Petry took first in the 200 Yard Backstroke by finishing in 2:21.12.

Penn State Altoona also picked up a total of nine runner-up finishes during the meet, consisting of seven individual second places and two relay teams that took second.

Coleman notched two second place finishes, earning runner-up status in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:06.00 and later taking second in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:27.68.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) also had two individual second places. In the 50 Yard Freestyle, she was the runner-up with a time of 26.10. She later placed second in the 100 Yard Freestyle by finishing in 59.27.

Dangelo placed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly, recording a time of 2:33.80. Petry finished in second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle by hitting the pad at 12:13.78.

Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) came in second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, posting a time of 1:06.20.

The Lions also recorded second place in each of the relay events. During the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Sponsler, Dangelo, Coleman, and Heisey combined for a time of 1:59.59 to finish as the runner-up. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Petry, Sponsler, and Heisey came together to post a time of 1:50.62 for second place.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming will now prepare for the three-day Oberlin College Invitational, which runs from Thursday, November 17 through Sunday, November 19.
