Women’s Swimming Tenth After Day One of Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN, Ohio – After the first of the three-day Oberlin College Invitational on Thursday, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team held down 10th place out of 12 teams following the evening's finals session in the Carr Pool.

The Lions compiled 131 points through the first day of action, placing ahead of fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend (125) and non-conference foe Chatham University (64.5). Host Oberlin had the top spot in the standings with 324.5 points, while AMCC team Alfred State College was in second place with 233 points.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights), Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College), and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) took eighth place overall with a combined time of 1:42.98.

Petry competed in the 'B' final of the 500 Yard Freestyle, placing seventh in that group and 15th overall with a time of 5:45.11. Coleman also swam in the 500 Yard Freestyle, winning the 'C' final and taking 17th place overall with a time of 5:34.18.

In the 200 Yard IM, Dangelo won the 'B' final while taking ninth place on the overall leaderboard by clocking in at 2:16.58. Heisey swam in the 'B' final of the 50 Yard Freestyle, taking third in that group and 11th overall by posting a time of 25.18.

In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, the group of Petry, Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga), Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax), and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) placed 12th in the standings by coming together for a time of 4:27.45.

Day two of the Oberlin Invitational is tomorrow, Friday, November 18, beginning with preliminaries at 9:00 a.m. and a finals session at 6:00 p.m.
