Women’s Swimming Finishes Ninth at Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN, Ohio – After the third and final day of the Oberlin College Invitational on Saturday at Carr Pool, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team finished ninth place out of 12 teams.

The Lions scored 151 points in Saturday's finals session, finishing with a three-day team score of 466 and ascending the standings by one spot from their Friday place. On the final team leaderboard, Penn State Altoona ranked ahead of fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend (10th place, 458 points) and non-conference foes Wheeling University (11th place, 439 points) and Chatham University (12th place, 188.5 points).

Penn State Altoona started the day's finals session by earning 10th and 18th place finishes in the 200 Yard Backstroke. Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) came in 10th with a time of 2:20.90, and McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) took 18th place by clocking in at 2:26.17.

In the next event, the 100 Yard Freestyle, the Lions also had two point-scorers. Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) placed 13th with a time of 55.81, and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) was 18th after finishing in 56.24.

Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) came in 13th place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, hitting the pad at 2:43.02, and Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) was sixth in the 200 Yard Butterfly after clocking in at 2:23.40.

Penn State Altoona had two more point-scorers in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle. Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) earned ninth place with a time of 20:05.26, and Rachel Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) was 21st after recording a time of 22:06.28.

In the meet's final event, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the group of Heisey, Petry, Grace Dangelo, and Coleman combined to post a time of 3:46.83 to finish in eighth place.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will return to dual meet action for its next event, as the Lions will travel to Erie on Saturday, December 3 to take on AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m.
