Women’s Swimming Gets Past Behrend, 112-102

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team picked up its third dual meet victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend 112-102 at the Junker Center Pool.

The Lions racked up 10 first place finishes to clinch the program's second consecutive dual meet win over Behrend. Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) led the way with three individual first places, while Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) each recorded a pair of individual wins. The team also won both of the day's relay events.

Dangelo's first win of the day came in the 200 Yard IM, during which she clocked in at 2:21.24 to finish atop the standings. She later won the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:02.72, and she wrapped up her three-win day by taking first place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:14.99.

Coleman took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 2:06.24. Later, she won the 100 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 57.33. Petry prevailed in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 12:02.61, and she clinched her second win in the 500 Yard Freestyle by finishing in 5:49.09.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) also recorded an individual win, taking first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle after finishing with a time of 26.21.

Penn State Altoona's relay victories came in the 200 Yard Medley and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay events.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin)/Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga)/Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax)/Heisey combined for a time of 2:02.34 to win the event. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Heisey/Petry/Sponsler/Coleman came together for a time of 3:52.86 to take first place.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will return home for its final meet of the fall semester, as the Lions will take on non-conference foe Lycoming College in a dual meet on Friday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m.
