Women’s Swimming Sweeps Saturday Quad Meet

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team returned to action on Saturday afternoon for its first event of the spring semester, and the Lions posted a convincing sweep of their opponents during a quad meet in the Adler Natatorium.

Penn State Altoona defeated non-conference opponents Chatham University and Franciscan University by final scores of 176-35 and 134-91, respectively, and the Lions also topped Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Bradford 167-41.

Penn State Altoona totaled nine first place finishes as a team, led by two individual wins apiece from Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) and Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College).

Coleman took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 2:04.31, and she later won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.56. Meanwhile, Dangelo prevailed in the 200 Yard Butterfly by finishing in 2:26.59, and she picked up her second win in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:24.84.

Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) won the 100 Yard Freestyle, posting a time of 59.97. Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) took first in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:19.42. Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) earned first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 1:07.38.

Penn State Altoona also secured victories in both of the day's relay events.

The foursome of McKenna Holl (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga), Sponsler, and Heisey combined for a time of 2:02.63 to win the 200 Yard Medley Relay, and the team of Heisey, Dangelo, Petry, and Coleman came together to post a time of 1:46.55 to take first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming returns to action next Saturday, January 28, when the Lions will host non-conference opponents Elizabethtown College and Juniata College for a tri-meet starting at 1:00 p.m. The event will be the Lions' final competition of the regular season, and it will also mark the date of the program's Senior Day.
