WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team wrapped up the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday night at Webster Aquatic Center, finishing in third place out of five AMCC teams.

The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team set a new program record for the most points scored during an AMCC Championship, as the Lions gained 614.5 points during this year's final to break the previous team record of 537.5 points, which was set during last year's conference championships.

Alfred State College won first place in the AMCC and second place in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet, totaling 831 points as a team. Penn State Behrend finished narrowly behind as the AMCC runner-up with 830 points, Pitt-Bradford was fourth in the conference with 154 points, and Wells College placed fifth with 135 points. Penn State Altoona took fifth place in the combined AMCC-Empire 8 meet, with Nazareth College winning the combined meet with 1,181.5 points.

Penn State Altoona opened Saturday's finals session with a pair of competitors in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle. Rachel Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) placed seventh in the AMCC and 15th overall in the swim with a time of 20:42.0, while Isabella Rhoades (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) took 10th in the AMCC and 18th overall by finishing in 22:09.03.

Following that swim, Penn State Altoona had at least one swimmer make the cut to swim in an 'A' final for the remaining five events. The night was punctuated by a team record-setting performance in a relay swim.

The Lions had two swimmers make the 'A' final cut for the 200 Yard Backstroke. Sarah Petry (St. Benedict, PA/Cambria Heights) clinched fifth in the AMCC and seventh overall by clocking in at 2:14.31, while Teah Sponsler (Halifax, PA/Halifax) took seventh in the AMCC and 10th overall with a time of 2:19.03.

Two more Lions competed in the 'A' final for the next event, the 100 Yard Freestyle. Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) earned AMCC runner-up honors by taking second in the conference and third place overall with a time of 54.61, and Madison Coleman (Altoona, PA/Tyrone) placed fourth in the AMCC and fifth overall by finishing in 54.95.

Grace Frey (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) qualified for the 'A' final in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, where she came in fourth place in the AMCC and 10th overall by recording a time of 2:39.91.

Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) won AMCC gold by placing first in the conference and second overall in the 200 Yard Butterfly, registering a time of 2:17.77.

The session ended with the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, and in the 'A' final for that event, the team of Petry, Dangelo, Heisey, and Coleman placed second in the AMCC and third overall by combining for a time of 3:40.75. That time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record for that event, beating out the previous time of 3:43.43 which was set by that same foursome of swimmers during last year's AMCC Championships on February 19, 2022.
