Titans Topple Women’s Tennis 7-2

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team returned to non-conference action on Monday evening, when the Lions suffered a 7-2 loss to Westminster College at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Westminster (8-2) put the Lions in a deep hole early, as the Titans won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-2, and 8-6 to grab a three-point lead.

Penn State Altoona (3-6) picked up two points with wins in singles play, but the early deficit was too much to overcome for the Lions, who lost the overall match by five.

Mikhaela Merca (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) secured her team-best fifth overall singles win with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph in the No. 1 match. Rachel Stricek (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) battled through a back-and-forth match to prevail 7-6 (7-1), 0-6, 10-8 in the No. 2 spot, recording her third singles win of the season.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis closes out its fall regular season schedule with one more home match this Wednesday, October 5, when the Lions will host non-conference foe Lycoming College at 4:30 p.m.
