Women’s Tennis Downed by Geneva in Season Finale
ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team closed out its 2022-23 schedule on Friday night at home, where the Lions fell 8-1 to non-conference opponent Geneva College at the Adler Tennis Courts.
Geneva (8-6) won all three doubles matches and took five out of six in singles play to finish the evening with a comfortable seven-point match win.
Mikhaela Merca (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) provided the only point of the match for Penn State Altoona (5-9), as she notched her team-high ninth overall singles win with a victory in the No. 1 match. Merca came back from a first-set loss to defeat her opponent in a tiebreak, winning 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
With its second and final match of the spring portion of its schedule now behind it, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team closes the books on its combined 2022-23 season. The Lions finish with a 5-9 overall record. Last fall, the team went 3-2 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference to earn a berth to compete in the semifinal round of the conference postseason tournament.
