Women's Volleyball Dominant in 3-0 Win at Wilson

Chambersburg, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three in a 3-0 (25-7, 25-11, 25-7) sweep against non-conference opponent Wilson College on Tuesday night.

In the first set, the Lions (5-9) had an eight-point scoring streak to create a big lead, 12-3. Lacee Barnhart (Bellefonte, PA/Bald Eagle) scored a kill, extending Altoona's advantage to 13 points, 18-5. Morgan Fussell (Blairsville, GA/Union County) later scored a kill, making the score 23-7. Taylor Myers (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch) and Fussell followed with a block, and Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) scored an ace to close the first set at 25-7. 

In the second set, Lydia Mock's (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) kill put Penn State Altoona up 4-2, and another kill by Barnhart put the Lions in a nine-point lead, 13-4. Later, Mock recorded back-to-back kills, followed by another kill by Makenna Port (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) that made it 21-9. Taylor Kilmer (Julian, PA/Bald Eagle) closed the second set with a kill, 25-11. 

Penn State Altoona started the third set with a 6-0 scoring streak. Barnhart scored the first point of the set with a kill, followed by an ace by Moran. Mock's kill extended Penn State Altoona's healthy lead to nine, and Fussell followed by scoring a kill to make it 15-5. The Lions went on a seven-point scoring run to end the third set, 25-7. 

Barnhart led the Lions with 12 points, 11 digs, and 10 kills. Mock contributed eight points, eight kills, and six digs, and Kilmer had 6.5 points on six kills and a block assist. Karlie Feathers (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) also had 6.5 points with a match-high five service aces to go along with a kill and a block assist.

Moran led the Lions in assists with 23, and she also added four aces and five digs. Myers and Michele Imler (Imler, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) finished with three service aces apiece, and Barnhart scored two aces.

Fussell tallied a pair of block assists to go along with three kills. Erin Lutz (State College, PA/State College) totaled six digs.

Penn State Altoona finished the match with a season-best .297 attack percentage as a team, and the Lions' total of 18 service aces is tied for the fourth-most in a match in program history.

The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team continues their season on the road against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College on Wednesday, October 12. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
