QUALIFICATIONS FOR HOF MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the Athletics Hall of Fame (HOF) as a regular inductee is open to individuals and teams who have, by their participation as undergraduate student-athletes in the Penn State Altoona Intercollegiate Athletics program, performed at a level of athletic excellence which meets the high standards set by the Athletics Advisory Council Steering Committee.

To be eligible for the HOF as a regular individual inductee, a nominee must have been separated from the university – when their athletics eligibility expired or would have expired – for a period of at least ten years.

In all cases, membership in the HOF is reserved for nominees with exemplary athletic accomplishments and contributions that were a source of pride for Penn State Altoona during their time as a student-athlete and the time following their departure from Penn State Altoona.

Active members of the Hall of Fame Committee are not eligible to be inducted into the HOF as individuals. Their nominations can be considered active one year after their committee membership has ended.

Under special and unique circumstances, a person or team may be inducted before ten years have elapsed following the expiration of that person’s athletics eligibility at Penn State Altoona. In this situation, the Hall of Fame Committee could grant approval.

QUALIFICATION FOR HOF MEMBERSHIP AS A SPECIAL INDUCTEE

HOF membership as a “Special Inductee” is open to those individuals who qualify using the following criteria:

  1. Through their involvement and/or accomplishments in athletics or athletically-related areas after attending Penn State Altoona, and/or by their example, character, and life accomplishments, the person set a standard of excellence worthy of induction into the HOF.
  2. Athletics Department staff members, who through their years of service to the Athletic Department, set a consistent standard of excellence through their contributions, accomplishments, character, and example that are worthy of induction into the HOF as a “special inductee” after their employment at Penn State Altoona is finished.

THE NUMBER OF INDUCTEES PER SELECTION PERIOD

The maximum number of regular individual or team nominees inducted into the HOF in odd-numbered years shall be five. The actual number of nominees selected will be determined by the Selection Committee and the Steering Committee based on the strength of the nominee pool.

No more than one Special Inductee will be selected in any given selection period

NOMINATION PROCEDURES

Nomination forms for regular individual or team nominees, as well as those being nominated as a “special inductee,” must be completed by the stated deadline during each selection period. The completeness of the nomination packet is the responsibility of the nominators. Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Nominations for those not chosen will remain active for the next two selection periods. The nominators will be given an opportunity to revise or enhance these nominations in advance of the November deadline date.

HOF NOMINATION FORMS

The appropriate HOF nomination forms can be obtained from the Penn State Altoona Athletics Office or the Athletics Department website.

SELECTION COMMITTEE

Once all nominations have been received for a given selection period, a five-member Selection Committee will be recruited by the Hall of Fame Committee of the Steering Committee. A diverse panel of five people, with no relationship to any of the nominees, will be chosen to carefully evaluate all nominations and come to consensus on those chosen for induction.

APPROVAL OF HOF INDUCTEES

The Hall of Fame Committee will coordinate all aspects of the selection process and announce the names of individuals and teams for HOF induction on or before January 31 of the year in which the May induction ceremony is scheduled.
