Jones Garners AMCC Player of the Week Honors

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. – For the second time this season, Penn State Altoona junior forward Dwayne Jones (Philadelphia, PA/Greater Johnstown) was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Player of the Week in men's basketball, as the league announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.

Jones led Penn State Altoona's offense during a 2-0 week of AMCC play that saw the Lions earn home wins over Pitt-Greensburg and Wells College.

In Wednesday night's 92-84 victory over Pitt-Greensburg, Jones finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. He followed that up with another strong performance in Saturday's 81-78 win over Wells, when the junior matched his career-high in points with 28 to go along with eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal.

On the week, Jones averaged 26.0 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, 2.0 steals per game, and 2.0 blocks per game. He shot an impressive 62.9 percent from the floor, including connecting on 44.4 percent of his three-point attempts.

Through 18 games this season, Jones currently ranks first in the AMCC in blocks (37) and blocks per game (2.1), third in rebounds (154) and rebounds per game (8.6), fourth in steals (36), steals per game (2.0), and defensive rebounds (114), and fifth in field goal percentage (52.2 percent).

This is the second time this season that Jones has picked up AMCC Player of the Week honors, as well as the third time in his Penn State Altoona career.

Penn State Altoona men's basketball is 8-11 overall this season, including 7-5 within the AMCC. The Lions' next game is Wednesday, January 31, when the team will travel to play nearby conference rival Mount Aloysius College at 7:30 p.m.
